How to Fix an Asus Laptop Stuck on the Logo
A laptop that never gets past the Asus logo is telling you something. The BIOS can show whether the problem is Windows or the drive.
Reset and retry
- Hold the power button until the laptop turns off.
- Unplug everything connected by USB, including memory sticks.
- Start it again.
When to stop: Carry on if it sticks again.
Look in the BIOS
- With the laptop off, hold F2 and press the power button. Keep holding F2 until the BIOS screen appears.
- Find the storage or boot section and check that your drive is listed.
- Press F9 to load the default settings, then F10 to save and exit.
When to stop: If the drive is not listed, stop. The drive has failed or come loose, and more attempts can cost you files. See data recovery.
Let Windows repair itself
- If you see “Preparing Automatic Repair”, let it finish once.
- Choose Advanced options, then Startup Repair.
- If that fails, choose Uninstall Updates and remove the latest update.
When to stop: Call before you choose “Reset this PC”. That option can erase your files.
Questions
Will resetting the BIOS delete my files?
No. It only resets settings.
The BIOS does not show my drive. Is everything lost?
Not usually. The data is normally still on the drive and can be recovered.
